Taylor Swift leads the pack, followed by SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj.
Taylor Swift tops the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards nominations.
She leads with eight – seven for her ‘Anti-Hero’ music video and a nod in the Artist of the Year category – followed by SZA, who has six.
Both were recognized in the Video of the Year category, for ‘Anti-Hero’ and ‘Kill Bill’, respectively. Trailing them are Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sam Smith and Kim Petras, all of whom are tied with five nominations. BLACKPINK, Diddy and Shakira each received four.
Swift currently has 14 VMAs to her name, placing her behind Beyoncé, who has 28 (two with Destiny’s Child), Madonna, who has 20 awards, and Lady Gaga, who has 19.
Beyoncé is nominated for Artist of the Year. Since she did not release any music videos surrounding the release of ‘Renaissance’, she is not nominated for any other awards.
The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, scheduled for 12 September, will have a record-breaking 35 first-time nominees including Petras, and Metro Boomin’ and Rema, who boast three each.
The VMAs will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Fan voting has now begun online across 15 gender-neutral categories, including the new best Afrobeats category. Voting ends Friday 1 September.
