Embraced as a modern holiday classic after its release in 2003, British romantic comedy “Love Actually” has recently been criticised for its lineup of all-heterosexual couples and sexist storylines. FRANCE 24 critic Lisa Nesselson makes an argument for the film’s enduring magic, in part thanks to its incredible cast. But first, she tells us about the delights of Babak Jalali’s deadpan comedy drama “Fremont”. It stars Anaita Wali Zada as Dunya, a recent Afghan refugee working at a California fortune cookie factory. We also look at Katell Quillévéré’s “Along Came Love”, inspired by the life of her own grandmother who had a child with a German soldier before he died during World War II, and a retrospective of the work of Iranian-Swiss director Barbet Schroeder.
